"I can assure you in the belief that we must protect the rights of Australian wheat growers against the unfair trading practices of the US and EU.

"We must line up behind the wishes of the Australian people wanting to protect the rights of the Australian wheat growers and this can be done by the protection of the single desk.

On Senator Boswell's motion to protect the export strength of one of Australia's major rural products by the advantage of a single marketing desk: I can assure you, on this issue, there isn't a cigarette paper between us.

"People say you should keep politics out of this issue. I am saying the politics of the issue should be dead set in the middle. Those politics being the vast majority of wheat growers want a single desk and the vast majority of Australians want us to support the wheat growers in getting the best possible outcome regarding the price of their product.” Senator Joyce said.
