Nationals Senator Barnaby Joyce welcomes the appointment of the Queensland Senator, Brett Mason, as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Ageing.

“Senator Mason has always carried out his duties in the Senate, to review and amend legislation in his role as Chairman of Finance and Public Administration Committee, in an appropriate, dignified and diligent manner.

“In recent time, Senator Mason displayed his values as a diligent Senator when he questioned some aspects of the Government’s proposed Access Card. It is always the expectation of the Australian people that the Senate will do their job of reviewing and amending legislation.

“This was his job, not to just the people of Queensland but to the people of Australia. Fulfilling these duties proves that he takes his role in the Senate very seriously and, in doing so, he dignifies the honour of the position. Obviously, he becomes part of the Executive and it is the task of Senators who are not part of the executive to now question him.

“I am sure he will do a good job, as part of the executive, as he formerly did in the sincere delivery of a Senator’s duties of reviewing, amending and questioning the policy details of the Executive.” Senator Joyce said.
