Labor’s complete mismanagement of the Murray-Darling process has seen reform delayed another 5 years said Senator Joyce and Senator Birmingham today. It was over four years ago that John Howard announced that the Commonwealth would fix the health of the Murray-Darling. Labor has mismanaged and dragged their feet on this opportunity.

“State governments have belled the cat on the plan. The complete confusion around the Murray-Darling Basin was exemplified today by the announcement that nothing will happen until 2019,” said Senator Barnaby Joyce today.

“It’s like the Labor equivalent of the last statement by Jesus Christ in anticipation of his second coming, “Don’t do anything till I get back”.

“The Labor party have been mugged by the reality of the total and utter confusion around the Basin plan and has left people with the only possible solution to delay and hope and pray that the Labor party is not in government by then.”

“This is not a government of decision, it’s a government of delay and deferral,” said Senator Birmingham.

“Labor has squibbed it on water reform and today the Prime Minister’s commitment to doing what is needed to restore the Murray rings hollow.

“This deferral must not be used to delay development of the Basin Plan. Australians, be they irrigators or environmentalists deserve certainty and deserve to know what is in the Basin Plan at the earliest opportunity."

Labor’s record on the Murray-Darling has been one of delay from day one:

- They took 18 months just to set up the Authority
- The Guide to the Basin Plan was delayed three times under their watch
- They are $350 million behind in investing in water-saving infrastructure in the Basin

Creating an atmosphere of uncertainty is an excellent way to drive farmers and graziers from their land.

This is a good, interesting summary for why the Big New Tax is all BS.
Keep reading:

Professor Ian Plimer could not have said it better!
If you've read his book you will agree, this is a good summary.

A
Are you sitting down?

Okay, here's the bombshell. The volcanic eruption in Iceland, since its first spewing of volcanic ash has, in just FOUR DAYS, NEGATED EVERY SINGLE EFFORT you have made in the past five years to control CO2 emissions on our planet – all of you.

Of course you know about this evil carbon dioxide that we are trying to suppress – it’s that vital chemical compound that every plant requires to live and grow, and to synthesize into oxygen for us humans, and all animal life.

I know, it's very disheartening to realize that all of the carbon emission savings you have accomplished while suffering the inconvenience and expense of: driving Prius hybrids, buying fabric grocery bags, sitting up till midnight to finish your kid's "The Green Revolution" science project, throwing out all of your non-green cleaning supplies, using only two squares of toilet paper, putting a brick in your toilet tank reservoir, selling your SUV and speedboat, vacationing at home instead of abroad, nearly getting hit every day on your bicycle, replacing all of your 50 cents light bulbs with $10.00 light bulbs...well, all of those things you have done have all gone down the tubes in just four days.

The volcanic ash emitted into the Earth's atmosphere in just four days - yes - FOUR DAYS ONLY by that volcano in Iceland, has totally erased every single effort you have made to reduce the evil beast, carbon. And there are around 200 active volcanoes on the planet spewing out this crud any one time - EVERY DAY.

I don't really want to rain on your parade too much, but I should mention that when the volcano Mt Pinatubo erupted in the Philippines in 1991, it spewed out more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere than the entire human race had emitted in its entire YEARS on earth. Yes folks, Mt Pinatubo was active for over one year – think about it.

Of course I shouldn't spoil this touchy-feely tree-hugging moment and mention the effect of solar and cosmic activity and the well-recognized 800-year global heating and cooling cycle, which keep happening, despite our completely insignificant efforts to affect climate change.

And I do wish I had a silver lining to this volcanic ash cloud but the fact of the matter is that the bush fire season across the western USA and Australia this year alone will negate your efforts to reduce carbon in our world for the next two to three years. And it happens every year.

Just remember that your government just tried to impose a whopping carbon tax on you on the basis of the bogus “human-caused” climate change scenario.

Hey, isn’t it interesting how they don’t mention “Global Warming” any more, but just “Climate Change” - you know why? It’s because the planet has COOLED by 0.7 degrees in the past century and these global warming bull artists got caught with their pants down.

And just keep in mind that you might yet have an Emissions Trading Scheme – that whopping new tax – imposed on you, that will achieve absolutely nothing except make you poorer. It won’t stop any volcanoes from erupting, that’s for sure.

But hey, relax, give the world a hug and have a nice day!

PS: I wonder if Iceland is buying carbon offsets?

You are as thick as a door. You could probably run for president of the US on the Republican ticket.

I appreciate the evident sincerity of your appeal on behalf of the putative Mr and Mrs Average and their financial struggles which you say will be aggravated by the tax on carbon. Your complaint the tax will do nothing to alter the temperature of the planet is a reasonable one. Your arguments though, like those of so many other coalitionists, are essentially myopic. It's not a matter of lowering the temperature of the earth but of upgrading the fundamentals of our culture. It's time to get down from the horse and buggy, take off the retrovision glasses and clean up our act. As far as I can see the government is making an effort to compensate your 'ordinary' citizen for this social, economic and cultural change which is upon us.

Geoffrey:

Compensation? How long do you think that will last? Even that kind of sweetener will end up being a bitter pill for the western nations to swallow.

The new advertising campaign will simply inflame people's passions to the point that half of our politicians could be thrown out of the windows of Parliament House.

Richard:

As thick as a door? Are you talking about Barnaby? If he's as thick as a door, then members of the Labor Party must be as thick as the Great Wall of China, which is highly appropriate.

Michael:

Thank you for your amusing take on the Climate Change farce. In case you weren't aware, those "cloth" supermarket bags are totally non-biodegradable.

I have found that plastic supermarket bags biodegrade after a couple of years even if they aren't buried. Now you have to pay for them in some stores.

The sale of "cloth" and plastic bags is just another money spinner for retailers, and is more about greenbacks. This fits in beautifully with the real agenda ... Financial Climate Change.

I still think someone throws depth charges into the Icelandic volcano whenever they want to use it as a manipulative tool on the masses.

I have a fish tank and every time my aquatic plants will not grow, I add a bottle of carbonated water, that makes them grow really well. In Holland the glasshouse farmers blow CO² into their glasshouses to make the plants grow. WE NEED CO². What we do not need is all the SO² that is in Ships heavy fuel oil, but there is no money to be made taxing them. So to all the Greenies out there I say read about the matter and listen to both sides, take your blinkers off, the people that gave the world the GFC are the ones that will make plenty of money out of this, not you. You will only pay for this. Climate change is as old as the earth and no tiny human can do anything about it. China builds 2 coal-fired power stations a week who is taxing them?
