Foreign investment in Australia under the Coalition averaged $274 million per year. Under Labor it has risen like our debt – it is now averaging $2.7 BILLION per year! *

“Australia must, as a priority, maintain the capacity to feed our own people. We need to make sure we keep control of key strategic assets. There is no more strategic asset than the ability to feed yourself and have ownership of your greatest national asset – farming land,” said Senator Barnaby Joyce today.

“China and other countries are explicit in their goal to secure food supplies for their exclusive use and that’s fair enough, anyone would do the same thing, but these investments do risk limiting Australians’ access to food. You can’t feed two people with the same potato and you can’t feed any if someone else owns all the factories that process them.

We do not have to stifle healthy investment, to stop excessive foreign investment.

We need a strong, bipartisan approach to foreign investment in Australian farms, because if the Greens get involved we know where it will end, parochial overreach that hurts more than it helps.

The Coalition and Labor changed the foreign investment rules for residential housing in a bipartisan fashion earlier this year. This was done at the speed of a thousand gazelles, and I’m suggesting that that cooperation be brought to this question so that we have food security now and for future generations.

A register of foreign owned land has been suggested and that’s fine, but it doesn’t solve the problem. The Foreign Investment Review Board need to be given the brief by Mr Swan to look more closely at how we are managing not only the sale of land but our future food production capacity. We’ve done it with houses, but you can’t chew through a block of flats if you’re hungry.

Labor doesn't have a plan to guarantee the best reflection of your
standard of living, the food on your plate and the price you pay for it."

So glad that you are concerned about this issue. I have long been concerned that we are slaughtering the golden goose instead of selling her eggs. Let's keep the land and sell the produce.

How can we stop this from happening? I want to do something and not just listen to people talk. What can I do? What avenues are available to us for action?

Louie Oldfield:

We can email and send letters to Labor/Greens politicians and tell them they will be out on their ears at the next election if they don't behave in a more patriotic fashion. Let your local federal MP know what you think, regardless of the party they support.

We can speak with our relatives, friends, work colleagues and neighbours.

We can go onto blogs to inform everyone of what is happening.

We can write to the newspapers and let our opinions be heard.

We can talk to people in bus stations, train stations and on ferries. We can go into clubs and pubs and get a conversation going there.

We can go to the media and speak about things we don't like. I'd like to see more groups of angry farmers and graziers kicking heads with the government on national television.

We can tell The Greens that we want their Environmental Lawyer, Larissa Waters, to live up to her surname and her pre-election promise that we would all be eating locally grown food.

She can ensure that a generous supply of water is made available to farmers and graziers FREE OF CHARGE. If she thinks her party can control the climate, then she can order God/Mother Nature to send the rain to people on the land in substantial amounts, only when they require it. At inconvenient times, she can order the clouds to dry their "tears" and move on!

And while we are at it, this is the perfect time to email your federal MP and State Senators and tell them you do not support Homosexual Marriage and Adoption on the following grounds:

1. Whatever is legalised is encouraged.

2. Sexual behaviours modelled by parents are encouraged.

3. There are no children to adopt due to high rates of abortion.

4. We already have 30,000+ people with HIV/AIDS, in this country.

5. The Greens support numerous methods of Population Control, including:

(a) Abortion (b) Euthanasia (c) Homosexual Adoption and Marriage.

6. A Question: Why are they interested in pushing a Green, recidivist, murderous agenda?

I'm sure we can think of more.
